I’ve read this book several times and it always brings a smile, a tear, and a deep thankfulness at all the ways we can see the world, and learn from one another, and fall in love. This one will give us so twaij to discuss.

Loved this beautiful little book. An amusing and moving take on the relationship between the sexes. Mandy Cook I found my copy on amazon kindle for 99 cents. It’s sad that Mark Twain probably never saw it published altogether as one book.
Both diaries have in common a deep curiosity and duario of awe, and both e truly laugh-out-loud comic in their individual ways. How amazing that this title got so little publicity. For example, my first read through, I was annoyed with the cliche stereo-types about women and was disgusted with the reference to Eve’s love for Adam “even if he were to beat me” etc. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. It should be noted that a basic knowledge of Genesis–Twain alludes to the part of Genesis that mentions Eve was in charge of naming the animals, for instance–is helpful but not necessary. However, he lacked financial acumen. Also, reading the bio at the end of the book gave more insi Lovely read.
How many times do we hear of stories today that tag women with these traits in an extreme or degrading light? Dizrio all, it was their types that became stereotypical, not them. Also, reading the bio at the end of the book gave more insight.

View all 5 comments. Trivia About The Diary of Adam Yes, there is much satire as with any of Twain’s writings, and some might say that there is overexaggeration of the differences between men and women; but I also think there is a remarkable heartfulness shining through.
This book is a tiny gem, and well worth a trip to the library or bookstore. And I think it shows beautiful balance — both Adam AND Eve are trying to understand one another, make theirSelf available to the other, learn what it is to be in a relationship with “the other” and find out that they are not so different at heart; indeed, that the differences are what brings the balance. I haven’t read Twain since middle school; I have a hazy recollection of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer getting into mischief.

He was a failure at gold mining, so he next turned to journalism. The man and the woman, while playing their traditional, stereotypical roles to perfection, also happen to be the first of their sexes. Yet, at their core, at the opposite end of being a weakness, we find these very traits might be an uplifting, powerful strength.

He achieved great success as a writer and public speaker. Yet these very traits are inherently ek in women today. She has the ability to talk to and tame the wild animals, and gives names to everything in sight. I’m not always a fan of Twain, but I just adore this book for some reason–maybe because it seems so different from his other writings.
